Are you holistically fit?

A Self  Test from Katherine Rone

This test lists 18 traits that someone with an ideal level of holistic fitness would have. Please notice that fitness can still occur during times of stress, illness or disability. It would be unrealistic to expect anyone to be without stress actually. A good example of this is a person coping with the death of a loved one. Such loss creates a temporary state of chaos in that person's life. There are many ways to balance such chaos, however, such as relying on the aid of friends. Being in a situation of temporary stress, illness, or even long-term disability does not make us unfit. We can choose to cope in ways that balance what our stress weakens.

The best way to take this test is to make your own answer sheet, and jot down your answers as you go. (You may wish to print this test first, and take it offline).  For each statement below, give a number as indicated here, for how true that statement is for you. Scoring keys follow the test. Words that are Italic Bold are defined at the end of the text.

5 = Absolutely true, or all of the time
4 = Mostly true, or most of the time
3 = Partly true, or some of the time
2 = Rarely true, or seldom
1 = Never!

Results

There are two aspects to the results. First, you can count your score simply by adding together your numbers in each category, and comparing that with the statements below. Second, you can look over your answers in each category, and try to find ways to connect areas of weakness with areas of strength. In this way, you can open your mind to new solutions and answers. Finally, if you are interested in more thorough assistance, consider professional services from myself, or from your health and wellness provider.

Definitions:

Body-mind is a term often used by holistic practitioners to refer to the body and mind together as one unit. It reflects the philosophy of holistic treatment, in that if a client presents a physical problem, the practitioner will seek the mental-emotional-spiritual connections.

Processing of emotions is a phrase often used by mental health practitioners to describe the healthy expression of feelings. Holistically fit people feel all emotions on occasions, even extreme ones, but they do not remain in states of anger, bitterness, hatred, depression, fear, or mania (overly excited and happy). Healthy people use tools or outlets to digest these feelings and let them go without harming others, making room for joy, love, and harmony to grow.

Forgiveness is the act of pardoning someone whom you believe has done wrong to you. When we forgive someone, we do not forget what happened, nor do we open ourselves to being vulnerable to the same act. We do release the negative feelings caused by the act, however, which has the effect of clearing our hearts and souls. Many people do not understand that forgiveness is an act of strength, and a way of healing wounds. As long as we hold onto bitterness, we cannot fully heal.
